Local Laws You Should Know
  • NO: Drinking or possession of alcohol in open containers in the street or public places or you will get fined $125
  • NO: Lighting open fires on the foreshore or camping grounds…Fine: $400
  • NO: Camping or sleeping in vehicles in the street or in public places, cause…you guessed it…Fine:$125
  • NO: Offensive behaviour (including urinating in public and offensive language) Fine: $250


All beaches will be smoke free and glass free permanently (sand only).
Show consideration to the local community and keep it down when you can!
Torquay and Lorne can be really busy around School Leavers so take it easy when driving around, the last thing you want is a ticket.

Local Tips

Even during schoolies events places like Lorne and Torquay can still be very quiet. Here are some important things to know:

  • A lot of shops close early, so plan ahead with meals
  • Pack warm clothes, it can be very cold and sometimes wet, even in December
  • All pubs and clubs are strict on ID 
  • Mobile phone coverage can be limited in different coastal area's

Please Keep The Surf Coast Glass Free
This year the Surf Coast aims for a complete glass free School Leavers! The reason for this is that too many people, School Leavers and the local community alike, suffer injuries from broken glass. Plus it causes damage to the environment!
So please, If you are going to drink, try to buy cans or plastic and help reduce injuries and damage   to the Surf Coast!
